Break stale bread into smaller sized pieces and place in blender. Blend until bread is ground to a breadcrumb consistency.
Add butter into a heated skillet. Melt butter then add olive oil until it lightly sizzles. Add breadcrumbs and stir until all butter and oil have been absorbed and crumbs start to toast. Stir once, then add salt and black pepper. Stir until all the breadcrumbs are moistened. Cook for about a minute. Then stir the breadcrumbs and cook for another minute. If necessary, repeat this step until the breadcrumbs are toasted.
